Harrogate Easier Living Project
Harrogate Easier Living Project (HELP) provides support for older or vulnerable people and those with a disability to remain independent in their own home.
HELP receives Big Lottery Funding and are supported by North Yorkshire County Council Adult and Community Services and Harrogate Borough Council; however a lot of the work done by them is only made possible by their volunteers.
The project’s three services – Help at Home, Opening Doors and Carers’ Time Off – are all supported by a team of volunteers helping people around the home and out and about in the community.
Help at Home provides a decorating, gardening and DIY service to those who can no longer manage the task themselves.
Opening Doors provides accompanied one-to-one support for disabled and older people to access social and leisure activities and medical appointments.
Carers’ Time Off offers carers the opportunity to have a break from their caring commitments by arranging for a volunteer to provide up to four hours of caring support in or outside of the home.
During my volunteering time with HELP I will shadow fellow volunteers and learn about what they do when they volunteer and what they get back from the experience
